Originating from Boston and now deeply connected to the DMV area, I’ve immersed myself in the rich vibrancy of Black culture, finding a home among a thriving community of Black creatives. My artistic journey is a fusion of passion and purpose, where I strive to capture the raw emotions that define our humanity, bringing them to life on canvas. Known as "the.nurse.who.paints," I carry both my identity as a nurse and an artist with pride, blending these roles in ways that inspire and heal.

From my early days, I’ve had a natural gift for drawing, evolving from simple doodles to detailed creations that tell a story. My love for acrylic painting took hold in high school, though I set it aside for a time to pursue a career in nursing. But during the global pandemic, my passion for art was reignited, pulling me back to the canvas where I could explore the expressive power of acrylics once more. I’m particularly drawn to large-scale works, where I can dive into the intricate details that make each subject unique, capturing the essence of individuality with every stroke.

By embracing a monochromatic palette, typically black, white, and grayscale, I invite viewers to focus on the emotion conveyed within the portrait, free from the distraction of vibrant colors. My shading technique blends the colors seamlessly, resulting in portraits that often resemble photographs. This technique sets my work apart, creating a unique interplay between painting and photography.

My primary choice of subjects revolves around Black identity and experiences. I aim for viewers to envision the emotions of my muses—whether they are happy, sad, indifferent, or angry—and to weave their own stories about each one. This imaginative engagement deepens the viewing experience, enabling a personal connection with the art. In a fast-paced and often overwhelming world, my portraits offer a sense of stillness and calm. I aspire for viewers to pause, reflect, and engage with the emotions and stories behind each portrait, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the human spirit.
